| The Truckee Tahoe Airport (TRK) and EAA Chapter 1073 will serve as the staging airport for the event and for those airplanes that cannot land on water more than once. Planes arriving Friday or departing on Sunday may park free overnight adjacent to the EAA hangar on the east ramp of the Truckee Tahoe Airport. The Lake Tahoe West Shore Association, Truckee Tahoe EAA Chapter 1073, Truckee Tahoe Airport District, and Obexer's Boat Company invite seaplanes of all types to join them for the Memorial Day Season Opening Ceremonies! - NEW LINK This will be the Third Annual Mike Brown Seaplane Splash-In, honoring Mike Brown's decades of operations in and contributions to seaplane flying on Lake Tahoe. His wife Lois plans to attend both the Pancake Breakfast and the Beach BBQ. The day will kick off with an 8am - 10am pancake breakfast for the participating pilots, press and public at the EAA Chapter 1073 hangar located on the east ramp of the Truckee Airport. This get together will provide an opportunity to meet the seaplane pilots, look at their planes with their wheels down and talk about flying before the serious water flying starts. Lois Brown will attend the breakfast and is looking forward to greeting her many seaplane friends! Following the breakfast, pilots are free to depart on their own schedules and arrive at the beach individually. Those who cannot make the breakfast may arrive directly to the beach. What: An afternoon of wooden boats, BBQ, flying and fun to celebrate the opening of the boating season on Lake Tahoe's West Shore When: Monday May 25th, 2009 8:00 am - 10:00 am EAA Chapter 1073 Pancake Breakfast, Truckee Tahoe Airport. Meet Lois Brown, admire the sea and land planes on display and mingle with the seaplane pilots at the breakfast. Up to date briefing and conditions reports will be available at the breakfast. 10:00 am - 1:30 pm The beach at Obexer's Boat Yard will open at 10:00 am for seaplane arrivals. BBQ lunch will be sponsored for the attending seaplane crews by The Lake Tahoe West Shore Association. Your Registration fee covers the required event insurance and the lunch. 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm. At the end of the beach party, pilots who have registered and volunteered to do so will stage individual fly-bys past the beach, an end-of-the day Parade of the Seaplanes, as they depart Lake Tahoe for home!
Why: Wooden Boats, BBQ, flying and great fun! Let's take advantage of this opportunity to open the West Coast Seaplane Season with the Third Annual Mike Brown Seaplane Splash-In on the day following the Watsonville Fly-In and Airshow! Moorings and boat shuttles are provided for large seaplanes. Float planes are welcome on the beach to the North and South of the Marina. The beach is 1 - 2 inch river rock with clear approaches and a moderate pitch. Mats will be provided to protect floats, assistance with beaching will be available. Please bring lines and stakes to secure your aircraft. The Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Sherriff's Patrol will be on hand to keep the planes and spectator boats separated EAA Chapter 1073 will provide support services for planes arriving at the Truckee Airport ahead of the event. Call EAA Chapter 1073 President Tim LoDolce, 530-386-3100, to let them know your needs. The Rockwood Lodge B&B, directly across the street from Obexer's, is offering discounted rates for Splash-In Crews. The free West Shore Shuttle will run from Tahoe City to Meeks Bay every day and EAA Chapter 1073 will have rides available from the Truckee Airport the morning of the event. This is a great opportunity, thanks to the support of the Truckee EAA Chapter 1073, to establish a new annual seaplane splash-in for west coast seaplanes.
